Jason Reimer – DayNight Mix
-
Alright guys, here it is Bird & Whale 3.0! Perfectly timed for the three year anniversary of the site. YEA! Have to give Mike Perrone my first-born and a flower bouquet or something for all his hard work coding, designing, and returning my emails. I’m really happy with all the new version of the site offers. I hope you enjoy it too. Please bounce around and let me know if you see anything outta whack. Why not make a comment or two about your favorite mix?I hope the new site will bring more compelling music through the door and more listeners too. Mike’s hard work is also encouragement for me to try and up my game. I plan to work harder at the writing and showcase more concerts in the events calendar. Also, I hope featuring the artwork of the mixes will get everybody more engaged. More better, more better, more better!
On that note here’s a mix by B&W veteran Jason Reimer. A nice follow up to his NightDay Mix. I actually finally met Jason in person when I was in Dallas over Thanksgiving. We have about 80 mutual friends so it was really cool to finally have some TexMex together. This compilation is mixture of American popular music and foreign exotica with a few knuckle balls thrown in there for good measure. Have a listen.
My roommate Bob Jones pointed me towards this quote by Brian Eno from this Guardian article. I begrudgingly agree with the sentiment if not the exact analogy. Definitely food for thought and perhaps apropos for this site’s third year around the sun. Here’s hoping good things are to come. “I think records were just a little bubble through time and those who made a living from them for a while were lucky. There is no reason why anyone should have made so much money from selling records except that everything was right for this period of time. I always knew it would run out sooner or later. It couldn’t last, and now it’s running out. I don’t particularly care that it is and like the way things are going. The record age was just a blip. It was a bit like if you had a source of whale blubber in the 1840s and it could be used as fuel. Before gas came along, if you traded in whale blubber, you were the richest man on Earth. Then gas came along and you’d be stuck with your whale blubber. Sorry mate – history’s moving along. Recorded music equals whale blubber. Eventually, something else will replace it.”
